mouth crystal

just a quick color study

**revised more**
-added more details, different color scheme. I think it's heading in the right direction, but does it need a character on the bridge? Possibly....

I think I'll finalize the drawing and put it in art rage, check back to see the final image

blog? what blog?

hmm hello blog, I haven't visited you in some time. Don't worry I will be adding a great number of things very soon, right now I have bigger fish to fry.

As some of you may notice, my website www.zoolawnick.com has become quite outdated.... FEAR NOT! I am currently reconstructing it from the ground up, and I will be unveiling the brand new site hopefully before the new year. Since I work 100% in flash at work, I thought it would be fitting that my site reflect what I do at Fablevision. The new site will have animation, illustration and even some games. Stay tuned!!

until then here is a tiny sneak peak at it.

WTD?! Espouse

This week's "What the Doodle?" word over on Creative Juices is espouse.

"Espouse" (v)

to adopt, embrace, take up, accept, welcome, support, back, champion, prefer
to adopt or support a cause, belief, or way of life

I thought with Halloween creeping around the corner, I would jazz this week's wtd?! with a bit of sci fi..

...someone is getting a ride home tonight.

Buyer Beware!

So i just found out that my friend Julia has had her artwork literally ripped right off the web, and sold as "original" artwork on Etsy under the shop name "Vintage Childhood". We all know people lift images off the internet, but it's another thing to see it happening right in front of you. It's so aggravating that someone had the guts to steal low res 72 dpi images, and sell them as originals, claiming that he/she has used only the "best paints" to create it.

So in the end, not only does the ACTUAL artist get ripped off, but the buyer gets a shitty pixelated piece of artwork, no refund, out of luck. Not to mention that you really can't do anything about it, unless you wanna shell out thousands of dollars on legal fees.

ya. awesome.

Here are some related links:

-I would post the link to the vintage childhood shop, but Etsy has since removed the site.

Terrible Yellow Eyes revised!

before

after

So I was over at Terrible Yellow Eyes, drooling over what everyone had made and I started to glance back at what I had created for Cory. I was (and still am) satisfied with how it came out, but I always felt like there was something missing. I think I always felt like there was a lack of soul in the beast. My intent was to make him jovial, so in doing so, squish up the ol' eyeballs and make him squint. However, considering Max is facing away from the viewer and the second beast is basically a faceless creature in the shadows, this basically leaves us with three characters without eyes.

So I noodled with it a bit, I personally think I got what it needed. Now you can see a spark of life in his eyes, and a bit more sense of curiosity.

-also another note, I think having his eyes open, lead the view up and around the illustration. Where as, when they were closed, you kinda just stopped on his face.

Let me know what you think, maybe I'm wrong!

Terrible Yellow Eyes

Hey do you remember Where the Wild Things Are? Cory Godbey certainly does! He had the fantastic idea, to not only pay tribute to this classic himself, but to gather a wild army of illustrators to help him out. "We share a love and admiration for Sendak's work and the pieces we present here are done as a tribute to his life and legacy."

Every friday for the past 3 weeks, illustrations start trickling into his blog Terrible Yellow Eyes. Cory himself has posting 5 or more beautiful pieces already, and it has been a blast to watch the variety of illustrations pop in.

Check out my contribution entitled: "Terrible Treeshaker" -thanks Cory ;)

Castle Crashers awesome!

Hey there! I just wanted to post this process video from the folks at The Behemoth, makers of the game Castle Crashers. First and foremost, it is possibly the funniest game on the Xbox 360. All of the artwork was originally created in Flash, then pumped into the system.

Altho the game, by design, is just a button mashing frenzy, it really feels like your are experiencing an interactive illustration, making it feel much more engaging than your average streets of rage type game. (TMNT and simpsons arcade game would also apply there) :)

Please enjoy the following video.

If you would like more information about The Behemoth or Castle Crashers, check out their site over at

If you do have an Xbox360, xbox live account and lots of free time to waste.... ha

download the game. seriously, it's amazing.
