Flash vs. Photoshop

The image above was created for my producer Shannon's wedding card. I don't really dig the whole wearing dresses thing.... hahaha :)

ok! now the post.

So I have been going through a transition lately. I have been working in the digital medium for about 5 years now, and most of that time I have been in Photoshop. I would draw with pencil, scan in, and do some photoshop magic on top.

Lately tho, I have forced myself to start creating things 100% digitally. In photoshop the drawing tool is clumsy and lame. It just looks crappy. Flash on the other hand, does a fantastic job of making line look crisp and clean. And no, drawing digitally still can't achieve soft pencil lines, it does do a great job of making something look inked.

Granted I took this route due to my job; watching my coworker Bob, create masterfully inked comics and images. I figured I would give it a whirl.

It has really been a HUGE time saver. Instead of sketching, redrawing on a lightbox, running to the scanner, scan scan scan, upload to the server, grabbing the file, THEN finally bringing it into photoshop. I now have 2 steps, draw and color. Done. In an environment where things need to be turned around rather quickly, this process is extremely necessary.

Don't get me wrong, I still love drawing with a pencil. There is nothing else like it. Much like how digital paint can never give you the same sensation as painting with watercolors or oils. They are 2 totally different animals. However ALL methods will still eventually result in the same way in the end. So go with what makes you happy! -or with what gives you the least grey hairs, when working under tight deadlines ;)

Bob Ross said it best, "let's go make some happy little trees."

Hello all,

Sorry I have been putting the blog on the back burner... I've been so busy cranking out stuff at work, it really makes me want to come home and just zone out.

Anywho, here is the latest character design I have been working on.

-seriously I'll try to update more. EEP! :)

Art Beast!

So Davis Sq. has a cool little festival each year called art beat. All local artists come together, share things, it's pretty cool. ( so I've heard) hey come on! I'm new to the area!

Anywho, my buddy Naomi was asked to build a big balloon monster for the event. Her being shmooze-tastic and all, mentioned where she works, Pete's name, and that she is in daily company with a slew of illustrators. So long story short, all us fable folk are making some monsters for her.

amazed by technology

So the iphone is worth the hype. My roomate and I went out to the mall this past weekend, I think to buy a shirt? -regardless, we ended up in the Apple store. Only after seeing the mobs of people hording around the small table on the right, that I remembered the iphone was out.

I gotta say, I am amazed. It literally feels like you are holding something from the future.

The screen is SO crisp.

Anywho, I'm not gonna go on and on about it. Just head over to the apple store and check it out for yourself.

Now I just gotta desperately resist buying one...... argh.

Cardboard creation

So this is pretty rad, a recent client took one of my images, and blew it up to a 6 foot tall cardboard cutout! I didn't get a chance to see it, AND I've been asking if I can have a copy.... for now this picture will do. Check it out!
