Purrcasso 2010

Hey everyone, some of you may know (most may not) about Purrcasso. If you don't, you SHOULD, cause it's awesome. Basically in a nut shell, it's a silent auction to help raise money for animals at the Berkeley East Bay Humane Society. They have all kinds of great artwork up for auction. Pieces by Pascal Campion, Bill Robinson, Brittney Lee and Alina Chau are a few, but there are loads more.

I am really excited to contribute. I was unfortunately a bit too late last year when Renee told me about it. But not this time!

Check out the site too, it's still not too late to submit, we (Renee and I) just sent off our images tonight. The artwork must be received no later than Nov. 5th. If you can, do it, plenty of little critters will really benefit from this!

So I hope you enjoy it, I think you've seen it before in an older post, but here it is again.

Pumpkin time

For the third year now, my friend and coworker Bob has invited me and our other friends to his annual birthday/pumpkin party. It's always a good time, and I'm excited to see what everyone makes this year.

Here are the photos from last year: (link to bob's post)

this is what I ended up carving:

Hope everyone has some time to carve one yourself!

SHIP IT!

FV tower

I just found this concept drawing I did at FV for a website. It was drawn in the "Pete" style. I especially liked drawing the old telephone. Enjoy!

Objects in the rear view mirror...

I noticed that Bobby Chiu over at sketchoholic was having an interview with Chris Sanders, cool thing is that they are having a contest to go along with it. The theme was "nightmare" and the winner gets this awesome original ink from Chris himself! View the site: here

tweet tweet

Woah hey! Didn't see you there, sorry I was distracted, posting 120 character tweets about art, junk, soapbox rants about Flash CS4 bugs, etc, etc. So if you are floatin' around in the twittersphere, drop me a line @keithzoo! Maybe we can chat about world news or something awesome.

sculpting

So I've been a bit distracted as of late, work has been keeping my art bug at bay, and when I get home Red Dead Redemption has been severly eating away at my creative time. Well I beat the game, so I decided to do a blog post on what I've been cookin' up over here.

My last post I showed a quick sketch of a fishy looking girl, said how I was going to be sculpting again, well here are some process shots of what I got so far.

Front and Side sketches

Early aluminum foil bulk

Massed in the shape, created basic forms, mouth eye sockets, etc

gotta have a REAL process shot... thanks Renee

facial features are basically finished, needs another pass on details

by the next post I should hopefully be able to take some photos from our sweet new camera, the Canon Powershot S90. I look forward to some real nice macro shots with that bebe.

Moving ahead, I really don't know what medium I'm gonna paint her in, if anyone has any suggestions, I'm an open ear, just email me or comment on this post.

Ok that's it for now, thanks for tuning in.

smoke monster

I've really been trying to push my darks lately. It's really a fun way of working, thinking in shapes, instead of lines. Really satisfying to see it all come together. -not to mention working in a limited pallet is a huge time saver.

keep on, keepin on.

hello again

Hey sorry I havent posted in a wee bit, been busy busy. At FV we had our Creative Juices show, which, I'll be posting photos of later.

But I wanted to plop this latest piece I did. It was a drawing I posted on here a while ago, but through the magic of the Coraline soundtrack playing in my headphones, became much more epic in color... haha

I'd like to think it's my own version of the cave of wonders. Enjoy!

The Lifted Brow: Atlas

I was contacted a few months ago by a fellow named Ronnie Scott. Ronnie is the editor for an Australian magazine called The Lifted Brow. It's really got something for everyone, it comes with 2 CD's of music (43 songs total), loads of short stories, comics and other artwork.

The theme for this edition was "Atlas", so we were all instructed to choose a country, and (in my case) illustrate it.

I just received mine in the mail, so I'll share a few photos with you guys. The whole thing is really amazing.

Check out the The Lifted Brow's website to check out more info about them. Unfortunately this edition is already sold out, but it looks like they are doing another short run. theliftedbrow.com

Here is another look at the piece I did for the magazine. -older post

enjoy! Have a great weekend.
