The Lifted Brow: Atlas

I was contacted a few months ago by a fellow named Ronnie Scott. Ronnie is the editor for an Australian magazine called The Lifted Brow. It's really got something for everyone, it comes with 2 CD's of music (43 songs total), loads of short stories, comics and other artwork.

The theme for this edition was "Atlas", so we were all instructed to choose a country, and (in my case) illustrate it.

I just received mine in the mail, so I'll share a few photos with you guys. The whole thing is really amazing.

Check out the The Lifted Brow's website to check out more info about them. Unfortunately this edition is already sold out, but it looks like they are doing another short run. theliftedbrow.com

Here is another look at the piece I did for the magazine. -older post

enjoy! Have a great weekend.

mouth crystal

just a quick color study

**revised more**
-added more details, different color scheme. I think it's heading in the right direction, but does it need a character on the bridge? Possibly....

I think I'll finalize the drawing and put it in art rage, check back to see the final image

blog? what blog?

hmm hello blog, I haven't visited you in some time. Don't worry I will be adding a great number of things very soon, right now I have bigger fish to fry.

As some of you may notice, my website www.zoolawnick.com has become quite outdated.... FEAR NOT! I am currently reconstructing it from the ground up, and I will be unveiling the brand new site hopefully before the new year. Since I work 100% in flash at work, I thought it would be fitting that my site reflect what I do at Fablevision. The new site will have animation, illustration and even some games. Stay tuned!!

until then here is a tiny sneak peak at it.

WTD?! Espouse

This week's "What the Doodle?" word over on Creative Juices is espouse.

"Espouse" (v)

to adopt, embrace, take up, accept, welcome, support, back, champion, prefer
to adopt or support a cause, belief, or way of life

I thought with Halloween creeping around the corner, I would jazz this week's wtd?! with a bit of sci fi..

...someone is getting a ride home tonight.

Buyer Beware!

So i just found out that my friend Julia has had her artwork literally ripped right off the web, and sold as "original" artwork on Etsy under the shop name "Vintage Childhood". We all know people lift images off the internet, but it's another thing to see it happening right in front of you. It's so aggravating that someone had the guts to steal low res 72 dpi images, and sell them as originals, claiming that he/she has used only the "best paints" to create it.

So in the end, not only does the ACTUAL artist get ripped off, but the buyer gets a shitty pixelated piece of artwork, no refund, out of luck. Not to mention that you really can't do anything about it, unless you wanna shell out thousands of dollars on legal fees.

ya. awesome.

-I would post the link to the vintage childhood shop, but Etsy has since removed the site.
